Llano County Beef & Range Field Day

This year’s Llano County Beef & Range Field Day is set for Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the John L. Kuykendall Arena & Events Center, 2200 Ranch Road 152, about 1.7 miles west of Llano. The program will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and there is no charge to the participant. Coffee and donuts will be sponsored by the Hill Country Livestock Raisers’ Association.

            Topics and speakers for the sessions will be:  Chemical Control – How and When to Spray Different Species by Dr. Robert Lyons, Extension Range Specialist; EPD-Genetics-Relates Back to Commercial Cattle by Dr. Rick Machen, Extension Livestock Specialist; Current & Most Beneficial Herd Health Protocol by Jamie Smith, Boehringer Ingelhaim Pharmaceutical;

Randy Maenius of the Farm Service Agency; Coyote & Heifer Program Updates by the Hill Country Livestock Raisers’ Association; Aerial Weed & Brush Control by Dr. Robert Lyons, Extension Range Specialist; and Tick Fever & Screwworms by Dr. John Tomecek, Extension Wildlife Specialist. 

            A BBQ lunch will be provided free of charge.  Sponsors for the meal are

Arrowhead Bank, Llano National Bank, and First State Bank of Central Texas.  The meal will be catered by Inman’s Kitchen & Catering of Llano.

            We will be offering three (3) continuing education units for people who have a private, commercial, or non-commercial pesticide applicators license.  These hours will be 1 in general, 1 in integrated pest management, and 1 in laws/regulations.  We will also offer 2 beef quality assurance credits to those who qualify.

            Make plans to attend this year’s field day.  Please RSVP to the Llano County Extension office at 325-247-5159 by 4:00 pm on May 22nd so that we will have an accurate count for lunch.  You may also email the Llano Extension office at vhorlen@ag.tamu.edu  with your response.  This field day is a joint effort between the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Llano County, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Llano County Soil & Water Conservation District.
