On Sunday, December 17th, Holy Trinity Catholic Church will host a traditional pre-Christmas event called the “Festival of Lessons and Carols”. This tradition began in England in the late 19th century as a way to introduce Christmas carols, which until then had been primarily sung in homes or neighborhoods, into church settings. It has grown into a popular Advent service in many parts of the world.
Through Scripture readings, songs, and prayers, the service tells the great history of salvation, from the Fall, through the prophets, to the birth of Jesus and beyond. There will be two choir anthems, but most of the songs are well-loved Christmas favorites, and the congregation is invited and encouraged to sing along.
Mark your calendars! The Festival of Lessons and Carols will begin at 6:00 pm, Sunday evening, December 17.
Following the service, there will be a reception in the parish hall to which all are invited.
