The Texas Indian Heritage Association (TIHA) will be celebrating
their 65th anniversary powwow on Fathers Day weekend, 16,17 June at
the John L. Kuykendall (JLK) Event Center in Llano, Texas.
Admission to the public is FREE. Visitors are also encouraged to
participate in the Saturday afternoon annual auction and visit the multiple
vendors with Native American themed gift items.
"TIHA has met in many locations in Texas - including Llano from 1988-2004,
we returned to Llano in 2019 to the present. Llano is a tourist friendly and centrally
located venue in the scenic Hill Country. The air-conditioned JLK Center offers welcome relief
from the summer heat", said Peter Durkin, current Chairman.
"The ideal times for the public to see authentic Indian drumming, singing and dancing
would be Friday and Saturday evenings around 7 PM", observed Vice Chairman, Mike
Armstrong. "This is a family friendly event and kids would really enjoy participating in
the cake walk dances."
"65 years is quite an accomplishment for an all volunteer, statewide, mission driven organization",
said Tommy Parker, one of the founding TIHA members and Historian.
TIHA members appreciate the new normal following the covid pandemic and returning to
the City of Llano. #
